<image:title>Blog - Rebuilding Trust with Your Body After Pregnancy Loss - Common reasons include:</image:title>
<image:caption>Feelings of betrayal. Many describe the sense that their body let them down or failed at something it was “supposed” to do. Physical reminders. Bleeding, scars from procedures, or hormonal shifts can make it hard to feel neutral about the body. Medicalization. Fertility treatments, ultrasounds, and ovulation tracking can shift your body into something to be measured, monitored, or managed rather than trusted. Disrupted identity. Loss reshapes self-perception. You may grieve not only the baby but also the version of yourself you thought you were becoming. Grief itself. Grief can cause you to disconnect from yourself, leaving you numb or detached from bodily sensations.</image:caption>

Have open conversations with your partner about the grief and pressure you’re carrying. Explore pleasure and connection outside the boundaries of conception-focused sex.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - When Your Mind Plays Worst-Case Scenarios: Understanding Postpartum Intrusive Thoughts - A few important things to know right away:</image:title>
<image:caption>These thoughts are ego-dystonic—meaning they don’t reflect your values, intentions, or desires. They are not the same as postpartum psychosis. Intrusive thoughts don’t mean you want to harm your baby or that you will. Psychosis involves a loss of connection to reality; intrusive thoughts are distressing precisely because you know they go against who you are. Research suggests that 70–90% of new mothers experience intrusive thoughts at some point. They are a normal—though painful—part of postpartum adjustment.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - When Your Mind Plays Worst-Case Scenarios: Understanding Postpartum Intrusive Thoughts - Intrusive thoughts vary widely. Here are the most common categories, with examples:</image:title>
<image:caption>Harm-related thoughts Visualizing accidentally dropping the baby down the stairs. Imagining suffocation during sleep. Fearing the baby will slip under the bathwater. Contamination or health-related thoughts Obsessive worry that the baby will get sick from germs. Fixating on sudden medical emergencies (e.g., choking, SIDS). Sexual or taboo thoughts Unwanted sexualized or morally distressing thoughts involving the baby. These are among the most shame-inducing but are still common, intrusive, and not predictive of action.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - When Your Mind Plays Worst-Case Scenarios: Understanding Postpartum Intrusive Thoughts - 4. Practice gentle exposure.</image:title>
<image:caption>Instead of avoiding triggers (stairs, bath time), gradually face them while using grounding tools. Avoidance often reinforces fear; gentle exposure teaches the brain that the scenario is safe. 5. Redirect attention with compassion. After a thought, engage in something neutral but grounding—step outside, sip tea, call a friend. Avoid harsh self-talk; respond as you would to a friend in distress.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Grieving in Advance: Why Anticipatory Grief Feels Like Living in Two Timelines - While you can’t stop anticipatory grief from happening, there are ways to support yourself through it:</image:title>
<image:caption>Ground yourself in the present. Practices like mindful breathing, sensory grounding (naming what you see, hear, feel), or simply pausing to notice your surroundings can help you reconnect with now, even briefly. Create space for your grief. Journaling, art, or rituals can provide a safe outlet for the emotions you might feel hesitant to express. Name your feelings without judgment. Instead of telling yourself, “I shouldn’t be sad yet,” try, “I’m feeling sadness now because I know change is coming.” Naming your grief helps reduce shame. Seek connection. Share your experience with trusted friends or support groups. Many people feel isolated in anticipatory grief, so talking about it can lessen that burden. Allow joy without guilt. Laughing, celebrating, or enjoying time with your loved one doesn’t cancel out your grief. Both can coexist.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Forgetting appointments or tasks. Struggling to focus at work or while reading. Feeling disoriented in time—days stretch on but weeks pass in a blur. Trouble recalling words or following conversations. These symptoms can leave you questioning your abilities, or even worrying about your mental health. <image:title>Blog - Grief Without Goodbyes: Coping with Estrangement, Divorce, or Lost Friendships - Here are a few ways to begin:</image:title>
<image:caption>Write a letter you’ll never send. Let your thoughts and feelings spill out uncensored. You don’t have to hold it all in. Name what you’ve lost. Maybe you’re grieving the relationship. Maybe it’s the version of that person who once made you feel safe. Maybe it’s the future you thought you were building. Create your own closure. You don’t need permission to honor your loss. Light a candle. Speak a goodbye out loud. Find a way to mark the ending that feels true to you. Watch for self-blame. If you ended the relationship to protect yourself, guilt may still show up. That doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice—it just means you cared deeply. Reach out. Some losses are too heavy to carry alone. You deserve a space to sort through the messier layers of grief with support and without judgment.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About Jen - Hi, I’m Jen.</image:title>
<image:caption>My name is Jen Reisinger and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has been practicing in the State of Washington since 2010. In my work, I am passionate about working with clients who are navigating motherhood and have been practicing grief counseling in Washington for many years. I actively partner with my clients as they navigate the challenging chapters in life and build new patterns and skills that allow them to live life to their fullest. Additionally I offer customized grief coaching for women who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, infant and child loss. You can learn more about this coaching service here. Many of my clients come to my therapy office explaining that what they’re currently doing to manage the overwhelm of motherhood or the pain of a loss isn’t working. I work with my clients to increase their ability to cope with symptoms of anxiety or depression, tune into their needs, set and communicate boundaries, or find meaning through major life transitions, grief or loss. I hold a Masters in Counseling Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. As a Perinatal Mental Health Therapist in Washington I hold specialized training to support this significant life transition. I am trained in EMDR therapy, harnessing the healing power of the brain. I have specialized training in child and adolescent therapy, postpartum mental health and grief/loss. Outside of the therapy office I try humbly to embrace a whole-hearted life, trying to create meaningful space to experiencing the joys and challenges of this one messy life. You’ll often find me attempting to check books off my to-be-read list, having dance parties with my kids in the kitchen, sipping on homemade iced americanos, moving with my favorite Peloton instructors in my ear or diving deep into conversation about life with good friends.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bellevue Therapist - Hi, I’m Jen.</image:title>

      <image:title>Therapist for Women Seattle - Hi, I’m Jen.</image:title>
