EMDR Therapy Intensives are a powerful way to put yourself on the fast-track towards healing and hope.

Not sure what EMDR is? I’ve got you! EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, is an evidence based approach to therapy that harnesses the incredible healing power of our brains to process and resolve traumatic memories and unhelpful self-beliefs that keep us stuck.

Experiencing trauma can create a tremendous ripple effect in our lives. In the moment of trauma we form a self belief (“I am not safe” “I am not good” “It’s not okay to feel my feelings” “I have to be perfect”) which may have served a protective purpose at one time… but is holding us back now.

EMDR can help update faulty self-beliefs. If you’ve noticed that you’ve been stuck with mindset that is holding you back, repeating behaviors that don’t feel in line with how you’d like to live your life or noticing you’re not making the kind of progress in talk-based therapy that you’d like, EMDR may be a helpful approach.

EMDR therapy intensives are powerful

EMDR is an evidence based therapy model that often is helpful in the treatment of trauma.

“But what if what I’ve experienced isn’t ‘that bad’?” The word “trauma” means “wound”. When we experience painful moments in life, we are often wounded. At times these wounds resolve on their own, sometimes with our developed coping skills or simply over time. Other times, our brains get stuck. The wound that happened continues to cause distress in our life today, even though it occurred at some other point in time.

EMDR therapy helps us to target what moments and what unhelpful self-beliefs are holding us back and tripping us up. Think of it like putting books back on the shelf instead of tripping over them on the floor.

So, what can I expect in an EMDR therapy intensive?

  • a 60-90 minute intake session to share what brings you to therapy, your goals and create our intensive plan

  • a 90 minute to three hour therapy intensive (1 or 2 days depending on your preferences and needs)

  • a 45 minute follow-up session

During your EMDR Therapy Intensive we will work to build coping skills, actively reprocess that which is keeping you stuck, and create the type of progress you would see in several months of weekly therapy sessions.

Your therapy intensive is YOUR experience. We take breaks, engage in grounding exercises, art, humor and movement as needed. There is no right or wrong way to utilize this sacred time. Want to learn more? Let’s schedule a free phone consultation.
