Gig Harbor therapy for grief, postpartum and trauma

Grief & Loss

I have significant experience in supporting people of all ages coping with life-limiting illness, grief and loss. I have worked with individuals, couples and families navigating loss through miscarriage, infant death, child loss and other painful losses. When working with individuals and families of all ages experiencing grief, I draw from my unique background of working in hospice and hospital settings supporting individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds during times of anticipated as well as traumatic loss.

Transition to Motherhood & Perinatal Mental Health

I am perinatal mental health specialist (PMH-C) which means that I hold specialized training and interest in supporting those experiencing fertility challenges and loss, as well as new parents in the transition to parenthood. I frequently work with new moms and family systems navigating postpartum challenges. Some of these challenges may include postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, irritability/postpartum rage, communication difficulties and identity adjustments.

Adults

I provide counseling support for adults as you journey through the ups and downs of life — whether you are experiencing significant change, a challenge you are looking to overcome, or feeling lost — I partner with my clients to discover what holds you back and what can help you move into life as your truest self, rooted in your values. I often find myself reflection with clients on the “messy middle” as we move through seasons and begin to intentionally place the foundation of what might come next.

Teens & Emerging Adults

With many years of experience working with youth, I enjoy teens and emerging adults in my therapy practice. Often youth can benefit from additional support on their team as they work through the gifts and challenges of life. I maintain a limited number of appointments for teen clients who are experiencing challenges with grief, feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, emotion regulation, difficulty navigating life changes and low self-esteem or self-image concerns. With youth I utilize humor, art and music within my therapeutic practice.

Families & School Support

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual and each child and family system is unique. I offer parent coaching and family support to assist families in functioning well together, parenting in positive and supportive ways, and increase quality communication. In addition to general parenting support, I have specialized background in helping families as they navigate the medical system as well as parenting youth with challenging health diagnoses.

My background includes serving as a mental health counselor in private schools, helping to support academic, behavioral, social and emotional success of students within their school environment. I enjoy partnering with school teams to help provide interventions and scaffolding that encourage student growth and confidence at school.

I provide support for ERB as a mental health and social emotional consultant. You can read my blog on the importance of student well-being in the school setting here.
